LILLY DANCYGER is the author of First Love: Essays on Friendship (2024), a LAMBDA Literary Award finalist; and Negative Space (2021), an art book/memoir, which was selected by Carmen Maria Machado as a winner of the Santa Fe Writers Project Literary Awards. She's also the editor of Burn It Down (2019), a critically acclaimed anthology of essays on women's anger. Her next book, Muscle Memory, a three-part novella-length essay about dance and chronic pain, is forthcoming from Autofocus Books in 2027.
Dancyger's writing has been published by The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Guernica, Literary Hub, Brevity, Playboy, Rolling Stone, and more. She writes the newsletter The Word Cave.
She teaches at the Randolph College low-residency MFA program, and is the recipient of fellowships from Sewanee, the American Library in Paris, and the New York Foundation for the Arts.
